I have driven up and down the Boulder road many times in my life, and each time is an adventure. The word adventure can be taken two ways. One would be the, “That road is so bumpy I lost a tooth and didn’t realize it until I got to town.” That is occasionally true, but the grater went past last week making it considerably smoother. The adventure I like to think of is the beauty of a road that winds deep into a beautiful and unchanging landscape. Last week on a drive up from town we saw a small black bear run across the road and disappear into the tall grass. Twice on trips down the mountain I have seen a mother grouse and her 2 young, standing in the same spot just enjoying the morning. I like to watch the river as I drive along, once in a while spotting a kayak, or a fly fisherman. There are quiet stretches with no people and then I will see kids riding horses or forest rangers hard at work. Every time there is something just a little different and I am thankful for the dirt road that brings people here to Camp on the Boulder. Plan a little adventure of your own.
